COMICS methodological axis

COMICS  : Concepts and methods associated with meta-OMICS

MODERATOR : Frédéric BOYER

The advent of methods that allow characterizing biological molecules (DNA, RNA, proteins, small molecular weight compounds) at a high-throughput rate now allows to have a holistic view of these molecules at the scale of individuals, populations or ecosystems. These new tools make it easier to infer the link between biomarkers and the environment by modifying experimental strategies through the change of scale they allow. However, these tools are sometimes not used due to their relative novelty, the technical difficulty of implementation and the complexity of processing the data they generate. NGS technologies are a good example of this type of technology that deeply changed the way researchers now design their experiment but whose potential is still sometimes under-exploited due to the difficulty of processing the sequence data.

COMICS aims to encourage and facilitate access to these high throughput techniques in the laboratory through the organisation of thematic seminars focusing on one technique and its applications to the laboratory’s research themes. These seminars aim at focusing on the associated methodological developments : definition of the contributions and limits of these techniques, implementation protocols and, tools and methods for processing the generated data.
